Kayo-Kayo is a religious, cultural festival — Olu Epe


The Olu Epe of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, has said that the ongoing Kayokayo festival is an annual religious and cultural festival cum carnival observed by the descendants of Oba Kosoko, who inhabited areas notably referred to as Eko-Epe in Epe.
The festival which began last week in Epe will be rounded up tomorrow with boat ride symbolic of Prophet Noah ark.

The festival is celebrated during the first month of the Islamic calendar in commemoration of ‘Yaom-al Ashura’ the tenth day of Muhharram in the Islamic calendar. That is about a month after the Muslim festival of Eid-El-Kabir.
Speaking with Journalists in his palace, Oba Adewale commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the development stride going on in Epe, noting that government has awarded contract for the development of the waterfront, Marina, in Epe alongside construction of major roads.
He added that the State government has responded to the needs of the people with the construction of the major roads in Epe.
"Epe will soon become a destination for leisure and business with the development taking place here courtesy of Governor Ambode.
"God has answered the prayers of Epe residents and with the unity of purpose between the Eko and Ijebu Epe, this town will reclaim it's lost glory," Olu Epe stated.
Speaking on the release of the Chibok girls, Oba Adewale said government should ensure that the remaining girls are released too.
"It is my prayers that the other girls are released soon, because as a father, I can imagine the pains their parents have undergone in the past two years without their children."
