Court remands woman for stealing neighbour’s turkey



An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Monday remanded one Sola Ajayi, 41, in prison custody for allegedly stealing her neighbour’s turkey.

Chief Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, remanded the accused in prison custody pending the perfection of her bail, as applied by her counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde.

Babatunde had applied for bail after the accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The court ordered that the surety must be a civil servant, who must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Ijiyode ordered that the woman should remain in prison custody until the perfection of the bail conditions.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 16, 2016 around 4 pm at Iloromu Quarters, Mokuro, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused stole a live Canadian turkey valued N30, 000, property of one Khadijat Lamidi.

The case has been adjourned to Nov. 26, for hearing.
