 Lassa fever hits Lagos 

*LUTH confirms case

THE first confirmed case of Lassa fever has been recorded at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi Araba. HOT News gathered that the unidentified victim has been isolated and is currently under treatment in one of the theatres of the Accident & Emergency ward , while a containment area is being devised. 
An official of the Directorate of Disease Control, Lagos State Ministry of Health, who confirmed the incident to Saturday Vanguard in a telephone conversation, did not give details about the patient, but said the situation was under control.
His words: “Yes, a case of Lassa fever has been confirmed. I am here right now at LUTH and the situation is under control. The Minister of Health will make the announcement at the appropriate time. Thank you.”
The LUTH management said more details would be issued in a press statement.
It said there was no need to panic as trained medical staff were on ground but noted that movement around the Accident and Emergency area had been limited.
