Army captain shot during Rivers poll undergoes two times surgeries in one week


The Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, Prof. Henry Ugboma, has disclosed that one of the officers of the Nigerian Army shot during the governorship and state assembly elections in Rivers State, Captain Adams Salami, has undergone two times surgery within a week.
Ugboma, who spoke yesterday at the Intensive Care Unit of UPTH, when the Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Mr. Biokpomabo Aware, visited said the reason was because of the impact of the bullet, adding that those who shot the victim did not want him to be alive.
Ugboma said diagnoses have shown that the victim was shot twice at a close range, adding that the act was aimed at assassination.
He said: “The staff members have done our best and God has placed him (Salami) on the path of survival. Seriously, the people that executed this did not mean for him to be alive, but God kept him. He has undergone two times surgery that is the tell you the impact of the close range bullet on him.”
However, Awara has told the military officers that were shot during the governorship and state assembly elections in the state to recover quickly so they could witness his swearing-in when wins the Governorship position of the state.
Awara at the ICU, of UPTH, told the victims, Captain Adams Salami and Corporal Adeosun Adebayo, that some people wanted them dead, but that only the hand of God delivered them.
He said: “It is unfortunate that you were attacked, but we thank God that you are alive. On the day of our swearing in, these are the men that officers that will honour us with your presence.”
