Supplementary polls: I never directed electorate to vote particular candidate---Buhari

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has advised the electorate to vote their preferred candidates in the Supplementary election.

The President in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Saturday said that there was no time he directed the electorate to vote for any particular person or party.

"I believe in the will of the people, and I cannot, therefore, put pressure on voters to elect leaders they don't like,’’ the President said emphatically.

President Muhammadu Buhari called on Nigerians to come out en masse and participate in the supplementary elections scheduled for 17 states on Saturday, March 23, 2019.

Thanking voters for re-electing him for a second term in office, he said he would never forget their sacrifices in defying harsh weather conditions to vote for him.

The President said: ‘‘I was deeply overwhelmed by your show of incredible confidence in me, and I will never let you down. Thank you for your sincere show of support for me.’’

He appealed to voters not to get tired of coming out to vote in the supplementary elections, adding ‘‘these elections are no less important than others before them.’’

The President appealed to voters to vote for the candidates they believe will deliver on promises because it is their “constitutionally guaranteed democratic rights.’’

He dismissed rumours and insinuations that he was forcing voters to elect candidates other than those they preferred.

Describing the rumours as baseless, the President said at no time did he give instructions that the electorate should vote particular candidates.

President Buhari also called on INEC and security agencies to ensure that the supplementary elections are conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law and constitution.

The President assured Nigerians that he is ready to work with elected representatives of the people regardless of party platforms on which they are elected.

President Buhari said he will work in the best interest of the country and democracy.

Atiku, PDP hail Adeleke’s victory at Osun governorship tribunal

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lauded the verdict of the Osun State governorship election tribunal, which upheld the victory of its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Friday, describing the judgment as a victory for democracy and the will of the people.
In a statement signed by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party described the judgment as "a clear indicator that those who set out to destroy our democracy can never triumph and that no matter how evil and injustice appear to thrive, the truth must always prevail at the end of the day.
Jubilation in Ede
The statement further read: "Nigerians have accepted democracy as a way of life and a form of government that suits the multi-plurality of our nation.
"The spontaneous jubilation that greeted this judgment is, therefore, a direct indication that it is in consonant with the wishes and aspiration of Nigerians across the board.
"For those who have been desperate to destroy our democracy, this judgment has proven to them that their shenanigans will always come to no avail.
"The PDP commends the judiciary for standing upright in the defence of democracy and for ensuring that those involved in the rapacious desecration of our democratic norms will never succeed.
"This verdict, which reverberates across our nation, points to the fact that the truth will always prevail and that our party, the PDP, will recover all our stolen mandates in the 2019 general elections, particularly, the Presidential mandate, which Nigerians freely gave to our candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
"Furthermore, all our candidates who have already won their elections, but whose victories are being manipulated by anti-democratic forces, must take solace in the words of the Osun election petition panel, that once valid votes have been declared and a winner emerges by majority of votes, a rerun is illegal."
The party congratulated Senator Adeleke, the good people of Osun state as well as all lovers of democracy across our country "for the triumph of justice over impunity, abuse of electoral processes and unfettered political rascality."
Meanwhile, Atiku has hailed the judgment, describing the judiciary as "defender of our democracy." In a tweet on his verified twitter handle, @atiku, the former Vice President wrote: "Truly, the judiciary is the last hope of the common man and the defender of our democracy. Congratulations Senator Ademola Adeleke. "
Similarly, the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, while reacting to the ruling described the development as the affirmation of the supremacy of the ballot.
In a statement issued by its spokesman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the group said it
received with joy the news of the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the Osun State governorship election by the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The statement reads: "The CUPP sees the judgment of the tribunal as a victory for democracy and affirmation of the supremacy of the sanctity of the ballot.
"The tribunal has given hope to Nigerians with this courageous decision to sack the governor who was foisted on the people of Osun State through the barrel of gun instead of the ballot.
"The rampaging electoral robbery of the Muhammadu Buhari's All Progresives Congress, APC, is beginning to crumble in their face with the determination of the judiciary to stand firm, despite monetary inducements and threats.
"Today's (yesterday's) judgement has reinforced the hope of the opposition that there are still men and women on the bench who, even in the face of rampage to destroy the judiciary, can still stand firm and do the right thing.
"We are hopeful that the Appeal Court and Supreme Court judges will be bold enough to send the 2019 mandate thieves out office when the time comes."

I'm alive, El-Rufai tells Buhari ---Hunts for those behind his accident news ----Says Atiku wins election in dream

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, on Friday presented himself to President Muhammadu Buhari to show him that he is alive and wasn't involved in any accident.
Governor el-Rufai also said that he was hunting for the peddlers of the news that he was involved in a fatal accident, adding that if located, the person would face criminal charges.
The Kaduna state governor who briefed State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with the President said that the claim by the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar that he won the February 23 election could have been in his (Atiku) dream.
According to him, "I came to see Mr. President after my re-election as governor because immediately after the election I took a break. I came back to report to him that I was not involved in an accident, I’m alive, I am not in coma and also to discuss other issues related to my state."
On his alleged involvement in an accident, he said, "My advise to everyone in Nigeria is to avoid forwarding stories that have not been verified. Social media provides a platform for disseminating information but it is also a platform for dissemination of lies and hatred.
"We should be very careful that we don’t use this platform to advance the cause of the enemies of this country.
"I was never involved in any accident, I was not near any accident, in fact at a time I was said to be involved in an accident, I was on a flight going to another country.
"But somebody sat and concocted this story and we are trying to trace who started it. Because criminal proceedings can be initiated against the person.
"Sometimes it is very difficult to know who started it but we are on it. My advice is that we should rely on reliable news medium, not just any platform or any blog. Unless we hear something from a very reliable news medium, we should be reluctant to begin sharing it as if it is true."
President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and other Muslim faithful during Jummat prayers in Abuja yesterday.
Also reacting to the PDP's presidential candidate claim that he won the election in Kaduna, he said, "Well, I heard about that. Initially, I thought it was a joke and when I checked I saw clearly that he said he won Kaduna. It must be in his dreams.
"Let me say this without any fear of contradiction, since President Buhari started contesting for the presidency since 2003, he has never lost Kaduna.
"So, PDP has never won elections in Kaduna from 2003, even with a sitting governor in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015. It has never happened. I don’t know what will happen that Atiku will win Kaduna in this elections this time.
"He lost Kaduna, he lost very badly, even though about 100,000 votes he claimed to have got were added because elections conducted without card reader in some parts of the state, that’s how he even got up to the 400,000 that he got.
"He has lost Kaduna, he will always lose Kaduna, he will lose Kaduna 10 more times because he has never won Kaduna in any presidential elections."
Reminded that the results were said to have come from the INEC server, he said, "Well, I don’t know about INEC server, it must be Atiku’s server. I don’t know about INEC server, we don’t know how they had access to it, they will tell us during the tribunal proceedings what is this server and how they got access to it and how they got their numbers.
"You do not go to court in an election petition by quoting INEC server or any other server. Anyone can create a server, I can go an buy it, it is a piece of equipment and c
all it INEC server.
"But that does not mean that it amounts to anything, we are guided by the electoral act and the evidence act and other enabling legislation and he has to proof his case.
"But anyone can make claims, we live in the age of fake news and fake claims. Anyone can make claims but you have to proof it."

OurMumuDonDo sacks Charlyboy as convener, BoT member Charky Boy

Charly Boy
OurMumuDonDo Movement, a good governance advocacy group, has sacked Charles Oputa a.k.a Charlyboy as chief convener and trustee of the organisation.

The movement said the decision to remove him as leader was taken after an emergency general meeting of the group held on Friday in Abuja.

In a letter signed by Raphael Adebayo, the National Secretary of OurMumuDonDo, and addressed to Charlyboy, the group explained that the decision was predicated on the need to save the movement from public ridicule and unfortunate collapse following allegations of bribe-taking involving him and the spokesman of Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo (SAN).

The movement threatened to ask members of the public to cease further dealings and interface with Charlyboy on its behalf should he fail to comply with the directive to step down within 24hrs..

A copy of the letter obtained by Saturday Vanguard reads: "Following an Emergency General Meeting which held today, 22 March 2019, to address the slew of scandalous materials attributed to you, and your subsequent public avowal to have engaged in amoral pecuniary dealings with the spokesperson of General Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Festus Keyamo, whom the OurMumuDonDo Movement has been publicly and completely critical of, the management of the OurMumuDonDo Movement, in a bid to save the movement from public ridicule, unfortunate collapse and also reinstate public confidence, has decided on the following:

"That your amoral and illicit dealing with the oppressors during a period when one of our fearless comrades, Deji Adeyanju, was banished to a hellish hole in Kano State for his fearless criticisms of the oppressors, represent a flagrant violation of the Foundation’s moral, ideological and constitutional focus.

"That your unscrupulous flaw has not only affected the credibility of the OurMumuDonDo Movement but also the myriads of conscientious and genuine Activists, Right Groups and Civil Society Groups in Nigeria.

"That we have come to the doleful conclusion that you step aside as a Trustee of the Foundation and as the Convener of the OurMumuDonDo Movement within 24hours starting from the moment you receive this letter today, 22 March 2019.

"Failure to comply with this recommendation shall leave us with no other option but to ask members of the public to cease any further dealing and interface with you, and we shall not hesitate to take all necessary lawful steps to ventilate our remonstrance and ensure that the credibility of this Foundation is protected.

"We must mention that this decision is not borne out of any personal vendetta but rather a fervent commitment to salvage the OurMumuDonDo Movement from public ridicule and imminent collapse."

BREAKING: Tribunal declares Adeleke winner of Osun governorship election •APC rejects verdict

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the bonafide winner of the governorship election that was held in the state in September.
The tribunal, in a two-to-one judgment, held that Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was not the valid winner of both the September 22 and 27 re-run elections.
It nullified the Certificate of Return
the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, issued to Oyetola, even as it awarded a cost of 200,000.00 against him and the APC.
In the lead verdict that was delivered by Justice Peter Obiora, the tribunal held that the State Returning Officer of INEC that canceled
results of seven polling units in four LGAs of the state, which led to the September 27 re-run poll, had no power to do so.
It invalidated the outcome of the re-run election.
"We hold that the cancellation was unlawful and ultra-vires of his powers.
"The cancellation cannot stand, being a product of illegality", the tribunal held.

Ethiopian Airlines stops attempt to confuse Boeing Max 8 investigation

Are larger powers or Boeing behind a report published by the Washington Post based on something that happened in 2015 before the Boeing MAX 8 was in use, and now mingled with  Ethiopian Airlines crash.  The situation is not only a public relations disaster for Boeing but may turn into a fight of survival, avoiding criminal charges and about keeping the companies reputation.

The WashPoston Post today reported about two pilots filed complaints with the Federal Aviation Administration about allegedly flawed training programs and poor safety procedures at Ethiopian Airlines years before a Boeing 737 Max commercial jet crashed in Ethiopia with 157 people on board last week, according to a Federal Aviation Administration database.

The 2015 complaints, filed before the Max 8 was in use, are critical of training and pilot documentation on the 737 in use at the time, as well as two larger Boeing planes.
Ethiopian Airlines may be based in a country many say is the third world, but the company had responded in a first world style, professional, and immediately without pointing fingers.

Today Ethiopian Airlines didn’t fall for higher powers trying to confuse the issue in the investigation.
A question becomes more pressing? Did this accident have to happen? Did 156 passengers and crew have to die on the Boeing MAX 8 jet?

The investigation and fault point more and more to the U.S. manufacturer. Pilots had been accusing Boeing of criminal negligence and indirectly so is Ethiopian Airlines. The FBI is involved in establishing if there was a criminal case against Boeing.

The report in the Washington Post today about unrelated issues taking away from the issue at hand may not be coincident.

Ethiopian Airlines issued a statement on the Washington Post article today:

Ethiopian Airlines strongly refutes all the baseless and factually incorrect allegations written in the Washington Post dated March 21, 2019.

All the allegations in the article are false defamations with out any evidence, collected from unknown and unreliable sources and meant to divert attention from the global grounding of the B-737 MAX airplanes.

Ethiopian airlines operates with one of the highest global standards of quality and safety performances certified by all National, Regional and International regulators like the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, the FAA, EASA, IOSA and ICAO and other National regulatory authorities. Ethiopian is one of the leading global airlines with modern fleet, high standards of infrastructure, highly automated with the latest ICT (information and communication technology) and one of the most modern operating systems.

The airline has seven full-flight simulators (Q-400, B-737NG, B-737 MAX, B-767, B-787, B-777 and A-350) to train its pilots and other airlines pilots. It has one of the largest and most modern Aviation Academy with training devices and technologies among the very few in the world. The Airline has invested more than half a Billion dollars in infrastructure only in the last 5 years which is not common in a typical airline.

Although the cause of the accident is yet to be known by the international investigation in progress, the entire world knows all B-737 MAX airplanes have been grounded since the tragic accident of ET 302/10 March. About 380 B-737 MAX airplanes are grounded all over the world including in the USA. All concerned regulators, Safety oversight authorities and other law enforcement agencies are conducting serious investigation on the design and certification of the B-737 MAX airplanes and we are waiting patiently for the result of these investigations.

This being the fact, the subject article is trying to divert the main focus of the world to unrelated and factually incorrect allegations.

We hereby demand the Washington Post to remove the article, apologize and correct the facts.

New Zealand Mosque attacks: t's heartless, inhuman act—NASFAT

The leadership of Nasrul Lahil Fatih Society NASFAT also
condemned the attack.
According to a statement signed by it Public Affairs Secretary, Alhaji Banju Busari, the group described
the attack as heartless and inhuman.
The terrorist act was heartless, inhuman and devastating to Muslims worldwide, heinously carried out when Muslims, young, old, women, men and their kids were waiting for jumaat service.
“This dastardly act has confirmed the position of NASFAT that terrorism should not be given colouration in terms of religion, race or creed.
There should be a consensus that terrorism is a global social challenge and it will remain unfair and unjust to blame it on any particular religion or faith.
“We feel so anguished that at a time when global peace efforts are gaining ascendancy across boundaries and our hope that finally terrorism is on the decline, now the killings at Christchurch mosque has proved to be a big setback.  NASFAT however, called on nations and world communities to regard terrorists as agents of death and should be treated with appropriate punishment within the confines of the law. It also stated that concerted efforts must be made to address with urgency, critical issues that promote terrorism under the guise of xenophobia or religion or other factors.

NSCIA, condemns New Zealand terrorist attacks

The Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has condemned last Friday’s attack by a Christian terrorist and Australian citizen, Brenton Tarrant, on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, describing it as dastardly.
The attacks were carried out as Muslims converged for the Friday worship in a gruesome manner.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Deputy Secretary General, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the NSCIA regretted that, “while many right-thinking people and governments across the world have expressed outrage at such a heinous crime and mass murder of various nationalities, there are those whose hearts are blotted by hatred and bigotry to the extent that every crime against Muslims is welcome.”
A typical example, according to the statement, is the Australian Senator Fraser Anning who still blamed Muslims for being attacked!
“The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of its President-General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, strongly condemns this brazen act of terrorism on the defenseless Muslim worshippers in Christchurch. The Council also totally condemns the enabling environment created by racists, supremacists and left-wing extremists that allows Islamophobia to fester all over the world.
“In all those attacks and others, the religious identities of the perpetrators have always been downplayed because they were Christians. But if a criminal who happens to bear a Muslim name is involved in a crime, his religion would be dragged into it. It is such double standards and other injustices that serve as enablers of the current state of the world where victims are conveniently branded aggressors and mass murderers are labeled gunmen,” the statement lamented. While appealing to Muslims in Nigeria and the world to remain patient and prayerful in the face of all attacks and provocations, the Council commends the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden, for calling the attack what it was, “a terrorist attack”, and for the efforts being made by her and her government to engage the Muslim community in this sorrowful period.
“Our prayer is that Allah admits the martyred Muslims to Aljannah Firdaos, give their families the fortitude to bear the irrecoverable losses, grant the injured quick recovery and protect His own people all over the world from the devilish plots of their enemies,” the statement concluded.

New Zealand Mosque attacks: The Martyrs and White-Supremacist terrorist

The hearts of Muslims all over the world ache at the heinous attack on Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, last Friday. In the video that went viral, Harrison Tarrant, 28, loaded his car with semi-automatic weapon; headed for the mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, strapped a camera to his head, and began shooting at anyone who came into his line of vision in the mosques.
In one fell swoop, Tarrant killed more than 40 worshipers at the Al Noor mosque, about seven Kilometres away and no fewer than 10 at the Christchurch’s Linwood mosque. Altogether, 50 people were killed, and several others wounded. Many of those killed gave themselves as shield to save others.
For all those killed in the attack, our consolation is that they will earn the ultimate reward in paradise. Just as we can correctly say those who gave out themselves as shield to save others are heroes.   All that died in the mosque attack have been martyred. In Islam, martyrdom is one of the great ambitions of a true believer. Before anybody gets any funny ideas into his head, let me explain that martyrdom does not include suicide or anything related to it. This is because, taken your own life in the first place is an unforgivable
New Zealand Mosque attacks: The Martyrs and White-Supremacist terrorist sin. Killing others who have not waged a war against you is also a massive sin.
These 50 Muslims have been martyred and abundant rewards await them.
“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision. Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve. They receive good tidings of favor from Allah and bounty and [of the fact] that Allah does not allow the reward of believers to be lost.” (Q3:169-171)
But why so much hate about Muslims around the world. In spite of the peace and love they share with others except some few deviants who may not pass as Muslims.
Harrison Tarrant though pulled the trigger of his modern weapon alone; he is certainly not alone in his hate to see anything called Islam. Those who failed to call the killer by its proper name - a terrorist, but rather paint it as white supremacist are not only showing a jaundiced prejudice but a horrific hate against Islam.
It is this same ideology that motivated a right wing extremist who killed 77 people in Norway in 2011 that has spread around the globe.
The white supremacists have proven to be no less dangerous than the ISIS or the Boko Haram insurgents. They maim, cause grief and anguish to people, and their actions result to mass murder. In fact, white-nationalists are racists and bigots impelled by fervid and chronic intolerance. What else does ISIS do that is not a stock in trade of the so-called white-nationalist supremacists? Absolutely nothing! It is those who have ugly dislikes for different races, cultures, and religion give a narrative of violent ideology to justify their white supremacy. If not why should anyone claim he is a supreme being to other person.
It is not unexpected that President Trump, against the backdrop of his Travel ban policy on Muslims to the United States, and his wall project against immigrants, yet it is stupefying that at this time of monumental grief, Mr. Trump, on that same day, commenting on the development said he does not regard white nationalism as a problem. 80 to 90 percent of the victims of New Zealand Mosque attack were immigrants. Although he has come under severe criticism by his countrymen, but his message to the world will not help to reduce the trend.
If an Abdullah anywhere in the world kills one person, he gets his second name from the bigots as Islamic terrorist but when a white man kills in the name of racial or religious discrimination, he becomes a white supremacist and a world leader will not have any problem with such appellation.
All mankind is from Adam and Eve and are all same. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; a white has no superiority over a black, nor does a black have any superiority over a white; none have superiority over another before the Creator except by piety and righteousness.
In March 2017, Khalid Masood, 52, killed four people on Westminster Bridge when he mowed pedestrians down and also stabbed a police officer who was on duty in front of parliament. He was immediately tagged a Muslim terrorist.
But now, Harrison Tarrant is an “an angelic boy,” (described by a section of UK media); nothing but a gunman, and above all a white nationalist supremacist. (by the United States)
Terrorism, no matter the shape, and no matter the nation, must be collectively rejected and condemned the same way we condemned others.
While President Trump said he has no problem with white-Supremacist ideology, the New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her Australian counterpart Scott Morrison did not only described the horrific incident as terrorist attacks, they have also vowed to treat it so. The dangerous side of the message of Mr. Trump is that racism at the top of society can create a permissive environment for extremism.
As we continue to grieve and try to come to grips with this barbaric atrocity, it is imperative that Muslims all over the world pray for the repose of the souls of those martyred. No doubts, the implications of the massacre for the families affected and the broader Muslim community will last a very long time and so, we beseech Allah to grant their families the serenity to bear the loss. It is indeed trying times for the Muslims and we must not relent in our daily prayer for them. If the intention is to stop the spread of Islam, or make the Muslims objects of hate, the sinister motive failed from conception, it will not shake the faith of the Muslims, it will rather emboldened them more than ever before. Muslims have been by far the most victimised group by terrorism especially in the post-9/11 era, but Islam will continue to thrive even in the face of persecution.
